Well, just now, my google reader popped up two stories, almost right next to each other. The first, from firedoglake, is about Phyllis Schlafly, who is a real throwback to the 1950’s. Just lovely. She just wants to pretend her son isn’t gay. Doesn’t want to talk about it. Just get honorary degrees and pretend that Ozzie and Harriet is playing on TV.

The second is from Bad Astronomy Blog, about how for the first time girls have swept the top tiers at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

A BREAKAWAY group of Anglicans will snub the historic ordination of Australia’s first woman bishop, West Australian Kay Goldsworthy, this week.

They claim the event is the death of traditional religion as stated in the Bible.

Tide’s coming in, people, the new generation will take over. You can resist and deny, but the children of today will not be quiet and know their place. No more intolerance and discrimination. Phyllis sounds like she’d just fit in so well with the GAFCon folks. Just pretend you can hold it all back folks. Just pretend that God told us priests have to be men. Just pretend that your son isn’t gay. Just pretend that the best use of a woman’s brain is to stay in the kitchen and do her nails. Try to hold onto the hands of your clocks to stop the movement.

No, not a snide comment this time at all. An inquiry from all you smart people out there to your humble servant, clumber, bishop of pittsburgh. We all have bishops. We all have expectations and ideas about what a bishop should do/be/think/act like. Madpriest’s comments on the Rt. Rev. Jane Alexander and a sidebar I had with klady lead me to ask of all of you, in order that I might set a right course of action for my holding the position of First Canine Bishop of the Episcopal Church, to answer that simple question.

Rescue can come in many forms.

For the drowning swimmer it can be a life preserver.
For the choking diner it can be the Heimlich maneuver.
For the heart attack victim it can be a trained EMT with an AED.

All these physical ailments have physical solutions, and yet the Episcopal Church has lacked the most basic life-saving ministry of all, Truth! Well just in time, when we had lost hope, dignity, and touch with reality, comes Father Christian Troll. Hallelujah and amen, brother! Thanks be to God!

Build your house on the rock of Truth and not on sands of shifting modern trendiness is all I can say.

These are simply beautiful, no? At first I thought they were stuffed toys, but evolution has created such beauty!

Australian driver belts in beer rather than young boy

Australian police who pulled over a driver in the outback were astonished to find he had secured a load of beer with a seat belt but not a five year old boy.

Officers said they were “appalled” to find the man was more concerned about his 30 ‘tinnies’, or cans of beer, than the child who was traveling with him.

While the consignment of alcohol was safely buckled in, the boy was sitting on the floor in the back, unrestrained.
